Humor? Naah…

Method of swinging on a swing

A method of swing on a swing is disclosed, in which a user positioned on a standard swing suspended by two chains from a substantially horizontal tree branch induces side to side motion by pulling alternately on one chain and then the other.

Believe it or not, the above paragraph is the abstract of a US patent. 🙂

Here are the details.

And if you want more, here is a list of crazy patents.

Now anyone out there on methods to climb a bus?

Babies and Information overload?

I thought and thought whether it would be appropriate to put this in my blog, but later decide to enter it anyways.

I watched a documentary on Discovery some days back on how babies start learning things. The documentary said, babies take about a year and a half to start learning words, then combining them to form mini-sentences (2-words) and then speak in normal language.

To think about it, you can imagine the amount of information that the child is provided with, but it just takes its own time (least bothered about the pace of the world).

But within 3 years they are masters in the field. They have learnt a new language.

It is not just language, mind you. Within 3 years, children learn quite a lot of other important things like walking, eating, what not… and 3 years is less than the time that we spend during our engineering.

(Why this article? What am I trying to say? Interpret it yourself…)

Do you make any value addition?

You blog about a lot of things. Do you ever make any value addition to the already overflowing information base?

Think about it…

About remembering names

How many times has this happened to you: You have met someone and you don't remember his name now? You say, “Pardon me but I forgot your name.”

Management gurus say, “If you forget names, you are forgetting your business.” True, I feel. Just call a person by his name and see how important that person feels!

I remember having read in, “How to win friends and influence people” about a person (I forgot his name 🙂 ) who remembered the names of 50,000 other people. He was a politician and could even remember the names of people who he met just once. If he found a name difficult to remember, he used to ask them to repeat it and if it was still difficult to remember, he would ask them to spell it.

I tried this technique once. There is a person in IBM (I don't want to disclose his name here) who has a really strange name. I tried this technique and still remember his name. Ironically, I have forgotten the names of many others here!

Just created a new community

I just created a new community in LJ. It is called englife. You can access it at http://www.livejournal.com/community/englife.

This community will be talking about anything related to tech. We found that we ramble a lot in college but sometimes it is not fruitful. All of us come up with some questions and no one comes up with an answer. Usually such ramblings are found to be useful. We thought this should be extended. Why just ramble in the college? Why only 4 of us? Why not extend this to the entire world.

For more info you may visit:

Please feel free to browse the page and tell me what you feel.
